Description

RISHANGLES DUBLIN ROAD (off) TM 16 NE 4/45 Woodhouse Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Mainly C16. A main range with 2-cell cross-wing set forward to right; in the angle of these 2 ranges is a further wing of c.1800. Timber framed with mid C20 textured render. C20 black pantiles. 2 storeys. Various small-paned casement windows, mostly of C19 date. Cross-wing has overhanging gables and in the side wall the lintol of a projecting first floor window. Front of main range has lean-to porch with C19 6-panel door (upper 4 panels glazed) and reeded architrave. Flanking the doorway are carved pilasters and consoles of early C17 date, brought from elsewhere, perhaps in C19. The pilasters have sunk faces with fruit and flower motifs; the capitals (one mutilated) have acanthus leaves, helices and 4-lobed flowers. Each console has a carved head spouting foliage and tendrils; one contains a shield showing an animal, the other a shield carved with a merchant's mark. Internal stack at junction of the 2 ranges, with plain oblong shaft. Close studding and tension braces visible internally in side wall of cross-wing. One ground floor room in wing has ovolo axial bridging beam and slightly moulded joists. Wind-braced clasped purlin roof over centre of main range. C19 stair by stack. Encircling medieval moat.
