Description
Prior to the extension of a landfill site a controlled strip of the topsoil was undertaken under archaeological supervision. Eight trial trenches were then excavated at intervals of 5-18m and were all 2m wide and varied in length from 32-155m. Following the discovery of charcoal-filled pits in two trenches an area 38x24m was opened up. Following trial trenching the whole area was stripped to the top of the subsoil.
