Description
Monitoring in advance of proposed development at Clays Printing Works. Machining of a rectangular area of nearly 50 square metres down to approximately 0.3m revealed only madeup ground. No archaeological features were identified and no artefacts were recovered. The development area had probably been seriously disturbed by the construction of modern buildings (immediately to the south east) and of the A143 Bungay by-pass (approx 10m to the north-west). Beneath the existing concrete pad was found a deposit of coarse brown-orange hoggin (mixed sand and gravel), also containing fragments of modern brick rubble (S1).
