Description
Evaluation of standing buildings was undertaken prior to the submission of a planning application for the conversion of existing outbuildings to domestic use. The standing buildings, a former cowshed c.18/19th century and further extended as garages during 20th century, has incorporated sections of flint and mortar wall fabric in its structure, possibly slightled remains of walls that once formed part of the Inner Bailey wall. A visual examination and interpretation of the fabric of the standing walls was carried out. Three Test pits were then excavated to a depth of 0.25-0.6m to ascertain how far down the walls continued (S1).
