Description
Site visited on numerous occasions. Planned change in floor level had potential risk to any archaeological deposits, as the site lay within an area of archaeological importance. An inspection of lift shaft pit against the rear of the existing building revealed soil sections containing brick, tile, bone, glazed pot and coal fragments, suggesting a late 18th/ 19th century build up of soil. Footing trenches produced 0.78m of brownish grey mottled sandy silt, containing finds of probable Victorian date. No interventions recorded and no finds were considered worthy of retention.
