Description
An archaeological evaluation was conducted for Anglian Water ahead of the construction of a new water pipeline in the parish of Bradfield Combust with Stanningfieid. Five of the nine trenches excavated contained archaeological features. Trench 8 contained Early Iron Age evidence in the form pottery contained in several pits and a ditch whereas Trench 7 contained a ditch possibly linked with the disused GNR railway which was known to run close by. Excavation of the other trenches produced little new information - Trenches 3, 4 and 5 contained probable recent field boundaries and drainage gullies.
