Description
An archaeological evaluation was carried out on 6ha of land at RAF Lakenheath prior to the demolition and redevelopment of a housing estate. A total of 49 trenches measuring 1202m in length were excavated at a width of 1.8m. This amounted to trenching of 3.6% of the available 6ha area. This was lower than the 5% specified in the brief due to availability of land and locations of live services as well as occupation of houses. The remaining 1.6 ha consisting of a playground at the centre of the estat and the southern edge of the site occupied by the Liberty Village development site office were not available for evaluation at this time.
