Description
Monitoring of footing trenches for an extension identified a silty layer and unstratified post-medieval pottery found by the contractor. Due to the very unstable ground conditions and the depth of the trenches, all but the final c.4m of trenching had been shored to avoid collapse prior to the monitoring visit. The trenches were 1.4m deep. Topsoil was 0.3m thick, which overlay a Dark to mid brown silty sand layer. The nautural yellow/silver grey sand lay underneath (S1).
