Description
A metal detector survey was carried out on an unploughed field, known as Garden Field, which lies immediately to the north-west of the Sutton Hoo visitor centre. Dateable finds were recovered from the Roman, Saxon and post-medieval periods. The range of objects included the mundane, such as unidentifiable fragments of sheet or droplets, but also more notable items such as two Roman coins. The most significant finds were four further fragments from the Bromeswell Bucket. All fragments of this objects found in 2012 were associated with a geophysical anomaly associated with modern ground disturbance. This suggests any future attempt to excavate and record an area around the findspot of the Bromeswell Bucket would be advantageous from a conservation point of view as the associated deposits may already be compromised (S1).
