Description
Monitoring of 8 test pits excavated to examine the overburden for possible contaminated deposits confirmed that there is a substantial depth of recently deposited top and subsoil containing a moderate quantity of modern building debris across the southern two-thirds of the site. Apparently natural stiff dark grey clay was only seen in the north-western pair of pits and no evidence was revealed for peat or any other water-logged deposits and all the stray finds in the upcast soil were of recent date.
