Description

Trial trench evaluation ahead of the construction of housing. There was only a partial correlation betweenthe geophysical anomalies and encountered archaeological features. Three trial trenches measuring 32mx2m were excavated. The stratigraphy was consistend across the site. The topsoil was a dark grey brown clayey silt with occasional CBM and chalk flecks. It varied between 0.21m and 0.42m in depth. Subsoil lay underneath and was a mid grey brown, silty clay with occasional angular flint seen at a depth between 0.17m and 0.51m below the ground surface. The natural was a light orange grey, clay with occasional flint and chalk flecks 0.52m -0.82m deep (S1).
