Description
A single visit was made to inspect the fully excavated footings, covering an area c.10m by 7m, for a new barn adjacent to the house. The trenches were c.0.8m wide and c.0.6m-0.8m deep and clearly showed 0.3-0.4m of garden topsoil overlying the natural subsoil, a chalky yellow clay.
A single ditch, aligned north-south was identified, measuring c.1.3m wide and 0.8m deep with a āVā shaped profile - the trenches had been excavated to c.1.5m deep to fully remove the feature. The ditch fill was a mid brown silt/soil and relatively modern brick was recovered from its base.
