Description
Very shallow topsoil strip in advance of creation of synthetic grass surface in playground – removal of existing grass. Not seen. Pipe trenches excavated after this, to depth of 0.3m. Still within topsoil. Only 1 trench seen – 0.3m deep, within dark brown topsoil. Likely that this, and remainder of trenches wouldn’t have gone through topsoil, despite not being seen. Early 1900’s bottle dump to NW of site – good condition bottles of various types. 1 oyster shell seen, unstratified. No finds or features, and likely that trenches weren’t deep enough to reach any (S1).
