Description
The site was a former timber yard. 13 1.2m square footing trenches were excavated to a depth of c1.25m. Underneath 0.3-0.4m of modern rubble a buried topsoil was visible. This was a mid brown sand with scattered flints about 0.3m thick. It directly overlaid the natural sand/gravel or chalk subsoil.
No features were seen but the soil horizons are well preserved and there was only limited tree root disturbance.
