Description

The development consists of a small rear extension to an existing bungalow. The ground disturbance consisted of around 22metres of footing trenches, all were available for inspection and recording. Trenches were consistently 1.10m. deep by 0.60m. wide and all were dug by a tracked 360 degree mini-digger, with a toothed 0.50m. bucket. The topsoil was between 0.30-0.40m. in depth of mid-dark brown clayey loam with regular medium sized pebbles (15-30mm). Subsoil varied in depth from 0.50-0.70m. and was of orange silty clay with occasional med. Sized pebbles, but very few flints. The ground appeared to be very undisturbed and no archaeological features were observed. The upcast soil was available for inspection, but no finds were recovered.
