Description

Continuous archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out at Davers Court, Shaker's Lane, during groundworks associated with the construction of a new care home: strip foundations in the north and south of the site with the two wings of the new building, as well as the digging of several drainage renches, soakaways and other landscaping up to 2m deep. A trial trench was excavated in the south-west side of the site. No archaeological features or finds were present. The natural geology was chalk bedrock, capped by sand and gravel river terrace deposits. The natural river terrace deposits in the central parts of the site had been heavily-disturbed by the construction of the former (demolished) building (S1).
