Description
Anticipated archaeology: possible moat to the south of the present house on the 1887 OS map, also close to the parish church.
Site visit: made when the ground level had been reduced by 350/450mm onto clean boulder clay at the start of the development.
Monitoring results: clean boulder clay seen with good ground visibility, no features present and no finds pre 19C (CBM frags).
Conclusion: the small development area cannot be seen as conclusive either way regarding the presence of a moated enclosure and associated medieval activity. The garden did not show any sign of the earthworks indicated on the 1887 map.
