Description
Two short visits were made during the soil strip for a new irrigation system on the golf driving range at RAF Lakenheath. Two c. 5m wide roughly north-south aligned strips were seen. These showed very shallow (c. 10cm) sandy topsoil over mixed and redeposited sands but no sign of any archaeology. The subsoil was yellow sand but it was not certain whether this could have been windblown. The soil in this area was generally very sandy and the upper layers appeared to have been disturbed.
