Description

A relatively small area was stripped of topsoil in the NW part of the area proposed for a balancing pond in spring 2008. Walked over, southern half showing clean gravel below topsoil, more mottled and sandy where exposed in the lower northern half of this obscured by topsoil. A medieval coarseware sherd found in this area. The proposal to put a large balancing pond here seems to have been replaced with pipe drains because of the gravel subsoil.
