Watching Brief on soil stripping covering area of 3 hectars, contractors using 360 machines and toothless buckets. Eastern third of the site was already 500mm deep and well into soil/gravel. Over site in general 300/350mm top and subsoil except in south eastern corner where modern dumping increased depth to 600/700mm. Surface visibility fairly good - some areas obscured by dumper tracks and fair amount of loose soil left lying around. Towards mid-point of site close to western edge, few sherds of BA pottery found together, possibly from a small pit judging by shallow (100mm) depression nearby. No other features or finds were seen and visibility good enough to be sure that nothing major was missed.
