Description

Monitoring was undertaken on ground work for the construction of an extension in the rear courtyard of the 16 King Street, Aldeburgh. It was to be built on a short stretch of strip foundation and a concrete slab. The ground reduction for the slab entailed the removal of c.0.3m of material but did not penetrate through to any underlying natural deposits. The foundation trench cut into a deposit of dark sandy loam but did not encounter any significant archaeological deposits. Some brickwork was exposed but this was related to a manhole associated with a modern drain.
