Description
Archaeological trial trenching was carried out on land at Brick Kiln Farm in advance of a proposal to develop the site. In total five trenches were excavated by mechanical excavator removing overburden until the top of the first undisturbed archaeological deposits were revealed. Hand cleaning of the exposed surfaces was carried out where necessary in order to reveal the nature of the deposits and identify cut features . The dimensions of the trenches measured between 49m and 22m long and 1.6m wide and they were excavated to a maximum depth of 0.9m. Heavy rain before and during the evaluation made conditions for trenching and excavation of exposed features extremely difficult (S1).
