Description
Archaeological monitoring was carried out to the rear of Stannards, Tavern Street, during the construction of new residential properties. The site lay under tarmac/hardstanding on generally level ground at c. 34m AOD. The first site visit was made to observe two test-pits that were excavated to ascertain the nature of the deposits and help the developer decide on a construction design. The second visit was to observe pile caps and ground beams for the construction of flats. No finds or features of archaeological interest were identified during either visit to the site.
