Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out prior to the development of a two hectare residential development at Aspal Park. Despite the potential for Roman or Medieval remains, no finds or features of these dates were identified. It appears that for much of the sites history, it appears to have been low-lying marginal land, prone to encroachment from the surrounding fenland. As a result of this the site was unoccupied. Undisturbed natural sand deposits underlay topsoil across much of the site. Towards the south of the site a thick peat deposit was identified beneath a layer of natural sand (S1).
