Description
Archaeological evaluation was carried out ahead of plans to construct an estate of lodges at Fornham Park. 34 trenches were excavated each measuring 30x1.8m and providing a 3.75% sample of the development site (43,270meters squared). A metal detector servey to inform the location of the trenches had to be abandoned due to the presence of unexploded ordnance. The trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.35-0.45m. The topsoil was c 0.35-0.45m thick and comprised dark brown silty clay with occassional flint and chalk gravel (S1).
