Description
Archaeological monitoring was carried out on the construction of a residential development on land to the rear of 5-7 Church Street. The visits were undertaken between April and October 2006 during which time the footings of four of the five proposed houses were inspected. This revealed made ground deposits up to 1m in depth at the western end of the site reducing to c.0.5m to the east. This overlay a natural subsoil of orange sand and gravel. 19th to 20th century pit and a backfilled cellar were identified (S1).
