Description
Monitoring of groundworks for the construction of a new dwelling after the demolition of existing bungalow, revealed extensive evidence for ground disturbance in the recent past truncating any earlier deposits with only two re-deposited sherds of medieval pottery recovered. The foundation trench revealed dark brown sandy subsoil containing 19th/20th century debris to a depth of 1.4m above yellow sand with flints. Similar deposits were also seen along the western side of the new dwelling footprint and given this deep overburden the foundations will be on steel reinforced beams and the lower part of the overburden will not be removed in the majority of the trenches (S1).
