Description
Archaeological monitoring at No 11 Dove Street for construction of a garage. The excavation consisted of a series of foundation trenches cut through the surface of a former car-park. They were relatively shallow (c. 0.5m) and were only cut into a deposit of made ground. No archaeological features were revealed and artefacts were recovered. Photos of the foundation were supplied by the contractors, they depict the foundation trenches after they have been excavated and show that they have been cut through the tarmac and concrete surface of the former carpark and into what appears to be an underlying layer of topsoil with 3 fragments of red brick. Although no scales are present in the picture, the trenches appear to be c. 0.5m to 0.6m deep. The trenches do not appear to have reached the underlying natural subsoil (S1).
