Description
Monitoring of an extension to the Castle Hill Community Centre. One visit was made by SCCAS Field Team on 28th November 2003 to observe the machine excavated footings. A total of 7m of trench were machine excavated to between 1.1m and 1.4m in depth. The exposed sections comprised 250mm of a dark brown silty loam topsoil overlying 250mm of mid brown clay silt subsoil. This sealed a 100mm thick layer of loose, gravelly sand, from which no finds were recovered. Below this was natural yellowish brown boulder clay. Both the subsoil and topsoil layers were rich in modern finds such as glass and roof slate (S1).
