Description

SACIC undertook a detailed ground penetrating radar survey within the grounds of Abbey Farm which lies in the former boundary of the Benedictine Hoxne Priory, a scheduled monument. The survey was commissioned by the owner of Abbey Farm as part of his personal research into the history of the site relating to the former Benedictine Priory and the demolished wings associated with the post-medieval Abbey Farmhouse. This followed on from preceding reconnaissance earth resistance meter and targeted detailed earth resistance meter surveys, both undertaken in April. This Ground Penetrating Radar survey was successful in recording anomalies of a structural derivation in greater detail than the previous surveys. The survey was targeted in five areas, Area 1 results were incomplete. Area 2 was located to the north of the walled garden, Area 3 was located along the only extant remains of the Priory, Area 4 was located on the lawn to the south of Abbey Farm and Area 5 was located within the walled-garden (S1).
