Description
Monitoring and limited building recording were carried out during the excavations associated with the ground works for an extension to the existing church. Preliminary work included the reinvestigation of the infill material of the south wall. The invstigations comprised a series of test holes. The 'reduced-dig' level over most of the area wa, be design, within the depth of the modern overburden. The amount of soil removered varied in depth from 400mm close to the building, to no more than removing the turn at the southern edge of the site. Archaeological deposits included the buried foundations of the medieval infirmary, which were encountered at a depth of 350mm below ground surface (S1).
