Description

Archaeological monitoring of groundworks associated with remedial work to a footpath and new stretches of handrails within the earthwork defences south-west of Framlingham Castle was undertaken between January and March 2018. The disturbance was generally limited, but where excavation extended beyond modern topsoil deposits, a re-worked or redeposited layer was observed sealing natural subsoil deposits. One small sherd of 12th-14th century pottery was recovered from modern topsoil.
