Description

2020: In June 2020, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land North-East of Flordon Road at Creeting St. Mary, Suffolk. A total of thirteen trenches were excavated measuring 30.00m x 1.80m. Topsoil with a thickness between 0.20m and 0.40m was visible throughout the site. Subsoil with a thickness between 0.14m and 0.60m was present in Trenches 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12 and 13, no subsoil was visible in Trenches 9, 10 and 11 suggesting that these parts of the site have been truncated at some point. Colluvium was present in the western ends of Trenches 5, 8 and the southern end of 13, these trenches were at the base of the slope which dominated the field; Trenches 5 and 8 in the western corner of the field and Trench 13 in the eastern corner. The colluvium was machine excavated, no archaeology was visible either truncating the colluvium or sealed by it. (S1)
