Full Description
North Gate of Bury St Edmunds, site of.
A will of 1493 mentions 'a coffer and chair were provided fro the hermit at north gate' (S3)(R1).
Several of the gates of Bury were sketched by Thomas Martin, FSA, about 1750 (S3).
Shown on Thomas Warren's 1776 map of Bury (S1) and on Downings map of 1740 (S2).
1993: Footings observed in sewer pipe. Details in (S3).
March 1996: Location amended after (S3).
