Full Description

A watching brief on the topsoil stripping for an extension to a gravel quarry revealed traces of settlement. A short rescue excavation using a M.S.C. funded team was mounted to record the features discovered.
Beaker pottery was found in three areas. Firstly in a group of six postholes or small pits on the N margin of the site; secondly in an area of pink-burnt sand and gravel and two small pits in the centre; and thirdly a few displaced sherds in two Roman ditches at the S end (S1). Details in (S1)(S2) and excavation archive.
