Full Description

A watching brief on the topsoil stripping for an extension to a gravel quarry revealed traces of settlement. A short rescue excavation using a M.S.C. funded team was mounted to record the features discovered.
A small pit at the SE end of the site contained several substantial pieces of early IA pottery, including decorated pieces. A smaller amount of similar pottery was also found in a ditch section, however, a second section produced Roman amphora sherds (S1).
Details in (S1)(S2)(S3) and excavation archive.
