Full Description
Reputedly site of Saxon water mill given to Cluniac Priory of Thetford, circa 1094, with church, fishery etc. Mill listed in Domesday survey of 1086 (S1)(S2)(S3). Bridge built pre-dissolution (?toll)(S2)(R1). For documentary detail see (S2)(S3)(R1)(R2).
Circa 1976/1977: River level had dropped 18 inches below normal and "piles of an ancient river crossing, in a rotten condition" had been exposed - information related by former owner of (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) (S4). Also PMed.
