Full Description

Linear marks and apparent pit alignment. No regular configuration - could be drainage features. Seen as cropmarks on air photographs (S1).

Above interpretation can be seen to be incorrect when looking at aerial photographs from World War II date, as the anti-glider trenches are clearly visible as earthworks and are some of many such features in this area.
Anti-glider ditches are visible on 1945 aerial photographs (S2,S3) to the north of East Sheep Walk. The ditches are visible as earthworks with small, circular piles of spoil, or irregular banks of spoil, adjacent to them. They vary in length from c 120m to c 260m. The features can still be seen on 1953 aerial photographs (S4), but by this date they have been ploughed out and appear as soilmarks.
