Full Description

The Plague Stone: an octagonal moulded stone base with socket hole, probably to a Med cross. Known locally as the Plague Stone and said to be dating from 1677 (S1). Marked at cited location on OS 1:500 map of 1885 (S1). Possibly removed from BSE 094 (cross, site of).
Circa 1980: Moved by Borough Council to park in front of W Suffolk College of Further Education, circa TL 8450 6450? - ?details with Borough Council. Also contemporary press coverage of controversy regarding re-siting.
