Full Description
Moats in permanent pasture, site of Med hamlet of Middleton, W of "The Clamps" wood (S1).
Two possible arms of a moat (the N and the E) shown at TM 437 775. Several ponds too shown in the immediate vicinity.
Shown on a map of 1701 in a field called `Great Middleton Wood', with `Little Middleton Wood' adjoining to the E and `Driftway Close' to the N (S2). Tenement called Middleton's is mentioned in the will of William Micklefield of Henham (owner of Craven's Manor) 1439, proved 1441 (S3).
1994: rapidly fieldwalked by John Newman - 1 rim, 1 base, 15 body sherds Medieval coarseware and 1 body sherd Medieval glazed ware (S4).
