Full Description
March 1991: Fieldwalking assessment revealed concentrations of burnt flint - probably plough dispersed burnt flint patch/es and scatter of struck flints and one sherd flint filled pottery over adjoining field surfaces, circa 300m length (S1).
August 1991: Excavation in advance of pipeline laying following topsoil stripping. A total of 30 features were recorded, consisting of: 27 small shallow features containing charcoal often with burnt flint and/or pottery, one pit 0.6m deep, one large disturbance (0014) containing charcoal, burnt flint, clay, burnt clay and pottery, at least 4m long going under the section to the north with upto 6 small post holes associated with it, and one rectangular feature 1m x 2m with fired and unfired clay, burnt flint and charcoal (probably an oven)(S2 & S4).
Extent of site N & S not known.
Radiocarbon sample from context BNH 037.014 gave LBA date of 2910 (plus or minus 90) BP (GU-4173)(S3). Details in (S4).
