Full Description

Socketed axe fragment, blade end, 5.2cm long by 3.7cm wide, possibly broken for scrap. Found metal detecting (S1). The blade is much damaged, but the damage does seem less patinated than the rest of the axe. Adjacent to the breakage is a depressed area, 2 x 1.3cm, which looks like a hammer blow. The axe may thus have been broken up as scrap.
Also found on the site was a Rose farthing, Charles I, Richmond type.
