Full Description

Four socketed axes and one `lump' from Long Melford. Recorded on card index in Norwich Castle Museum compiled by R R Clarke (in 1940s-1960s). Listed as in St Albans Museum at time of compilation (S1)(R1) but not recorded there in January 1992 (S2).
Socketed axe sold at Sotheby's in 1956 may be from this hoard (see CRN 05905). Note Holywell Row hoard also formerly in St Albans Museum were loaned by Capt Ball, whose collection was subsequently sold at Sothebys in 1949.
