Summary

Full Description

Dark soil layer beneath blown sand observed in small pipe trench & small test area (1m x 0.5m) excavated. Possible hearth area of Rom tile frags (imbrex& tegula), flat stones & a little burnt clay was found in lower part of dark layer. Also frags of Med pot found (S1). One of the stones is smooth on one face, possibly a stone palette frag? It should be noted that some of the ESax hearths at WSW 002 used Rom tiles in their construction. Details in (S2).
Situated on the next "sandhill" to E of WSW 002 excavated settlement. Area to the S [partly] destroyed by extraction, landscaping, etc.
