Full Description

Helmingham Park. Park of special historic interest. Details in (S1). Not shown on Saxton's Map of Suffolk 1575, but a rental of 1631 mentions the Old Park (122 acres) and the New Park (34 acres)(S2).
Deer park of 162 ha with scattered and grouped oaks from C13 and C14 & older. For C16 & later house & moats etc., see HLM 003.
Area includes `The Mount', C18 earthwork mound to W of large pond crowned with an obelisk built in 1860 from re-used brick from summerhouse of 1760s (S1)(S3).
