Full Description
January 1990: Initial excavation of area of 1000 sq m fronting Walnut Tree Lane demonstrated heavy C19 disturbance by quarrying - see PMed. Residual finds included EMed (also Thetford ware - see Sax) & Med pottery. A med coin was metal detected form the spoil tips (S1). Details to follow. One small area was found undisturbed in the 1000 sq m, which contained two large pits, one of EMed (C11/C12) date. Rapid assessment of the rest of the 6000 sq m plot area located only one further undisturbed area, of 250 sq m, in the SW corner of the plot.
Eight pits, one ditch, one slot and a post hole boundary line of (E?)Med date were located and excavated (S1). Details to follow.
