Full Description

November 1993: Assessment of `60 Acre Field' by 2m wide trial trenches over 1% of area located Neo site in trenches D6, D8-D10. Covered area of at least 17m x 15m consisting of large (circular?) hollow, two charcoal filled pits and a possible buried soil horizon, with pottery, worked flint and burnt bones. Also Med pottery in upper level of large hollow. Details in (S1). For second Neo site located during `60 Acre Field' assessment see MNL 469.
October 1999: Full excavation revealed multi-period finds (Neo 700 sherds & 121 worked flints; 21 Preh sherds; 4 Rom sherds; 20 Med sherds) in natural hollow plus Undated (Neolithic?) features adjoining. Details in (S2).

October 1999: Excavation in advance of development of 60 Acre Field at RAF Mildenhall uncovered a natural hollow in which a Neolithic buried soil survived. Features identified on high ground to the north west of the hollow contained no finds but are probably related to contemporary settlement which has been all but destroyed.

Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 1999 (S3).
