Full Description

Bridge shown on Hodskinson's 1783 (S1) on Bowen's 1755 (S2), on Saxton's 1575 and Speede's 1610 maps. Same as `Five Arches Bridge' referred to on IPS 106 or Handford Bridge? Handford Bridge is one of two earliest documented bridges (see IPS 255 for other) in Suffolk being referred to in a document of circa 970.

Both Orwell & Gipping must have been bridged together. The bridges would probably have been linked by a causeway.
