Survey by HDAG upto end of 1993(?): `Enclosed by an external ditch, with traces of an internal bank along S boundary. Established hedgerows exist on all four sides, with ten or eleven species present. This together with..., suggests the boundary of the wood was possibly 9th or 10th century in origin and represents an enclosed remnant of ancient woodland (S3).
Tithe map of Great Barton shows a much broader area of ancient woodland (S4) than previously mentioned. Area is currently dramatically reduced in comparison to that shown on the tithe map (mapped HBSMR boundaries changed to match tithe, April 2012).
