Summary

Royal mint established at Sudbury in the reign of Ethelred II (978-1016). Coins were minted there from 1009-1066, and thence until 1154. Land in King Street named 'The Mint' in deeds is reputed to be the site of the mint

Full Description

A Royal Mint established in Sudbury in reign of Ethelred II (978-1016). (1)

Records of coinage from the Sudbury Mint of Saxon kings from
Ethelred II to Harold II, and Norman kings William I to
Stephen. (2)

Land in King Street named 'The Mint' in its deeds reputed to be site of Saxon Mint, occupied by house named "Belle Vue". (3)

(TL 87664130) Bellevue, now the municipal offices Sudbury, is said
to be on site of a Saxon mint. (4)
